Why am I running for Mayor?
The City of Fort Lauderdale is at a crossroads. After 18 years, we will have an opportunity on February 10, 2009 to “Polish up the image” of Ft Lauderdale; to build a city that is a sophisticated, urban metropolis, proud of its diversity, its natural beauty and its climate. Or we can continue to elect recycled politicians back into office; complete with their baggage, their bickering and their demonstrated lack of fiscal responsibility.
Doing the latter will insure that, for many residents and tourists, Ft Lauderdale’s image will remain that of a tarnished backwater enclave with provincial attitudes, no fresh ideas and no leadership. We cannot afford this!
However, we have a chance to change that. I want others around the country & the world to see this city as I see it; a city that has the waterways of Venice Italy, the diversity of New York, the beaches of Hawaii, the yachts of the Mediterranean and the climate of the Caribbean. No other city in the world has what we have to offer to the tourist, the prospective resident or the prospective new business considering establishing a presence here. We should be justifiably proud of this fact!
The next Mayor of Ft Lauderdale must employ new, fresh ideas to grow the economy of this city, reduce property taxes, create new exciting “destinations” within the city, reduce the proliferation of ugly strip malls and bring the budget back under control.
